Milburn gig at the Faverham in Leeds

(wrote on the the 19th Feb 2006 12:36am)

Well Ive just got back from the Milburn gig at the Faversham in Leeds and it was amazing!

Milburn followed a band called Pearl who were, well, how can i put it? W*nk!! But when Milburn took to the stage, well, they stole the show!
The Milburn lads shared a drink with the fans while watching Pearl just 15 minutes before they were due on. Joe Green the drummer was not very well, lead singer Joe Carnall told the crowd which resulted in a "Greeny Chant" started by the Sheffield lads at the front of the crowd (me and 4 of ma mates).

At the entrance a tally was being taken too find out who out of the three bands on the night, Pearl, Milburn and the Rifles were the most supported and good old Milburn came out on top of that vote and it was obvious with the crowds reaction to there music. Everyword of everysong being sang back to them. I was at the front hanging on for dear life but loved every minute of it. After the first song Joe Carnall shouted "Are we gonna start bouncing then!" And the next song there was plenty of bouncing! When Send in the Boys was played i felt a powerful surge forward as i held the bar in front of me forcing everyone back. The best song of the night i thought though was "Lipstick Lickin". There wasnt a body in the room who wasnt bouncing to that song and judging by Milburns talent there wont be many bodys in the country not boucning to their tunes before long!

Infact when Joe Carnall anounced the bands last number they were booed and chants began such as "F*CK THE RIFLES WE WANT MILBURN!"

And what a tune the Milburn Lads finished with! "What you could have won" Another favourite and another success of the night for Milburn and things are looking good for Sheffields music scene.

Ye i havent puctuated this, and its cos i cant be arsed, my crap English is an art and so is Milburns music!

Cheers, and if i wa you id get yer sen a ticket off Ebay for the Leadmill gig in March!

I went to the Milburn gig at the Faversham too.

It was a bit of a last-minute thing, this lad at Uni had 2 spare tickets so I took one. Faversham is absolutely shit for gigs, too small and the pillars at the side block a fair bit of the view off. Still a fantastic gig and they're now one of my favourite bands.

By the way MonkeyMania, was that band not called "River"? They were shit anyway.

I don't like Cheshire Cat Smile, it's one of their weaker songs. Dancing on the kitchen floor and Well well well are my favourites!

Going seeing these again at Manchester Academy on July 18th, anyone else going?
