A little rant

Postby surrey_casual » Mon Apr 30, 2007 10:10 am

im a bit pissed off.

arctic monkeys think there oh so cool dont they? not playing top of the pops, brits, etc etc, the list goes on. so why is it then that they play so many fucking shows in amercia?? that jimmy kimmel show looks like the cheeseist thing ever. it pisses me off.

is it not one big fucking contradiction?

It is.

This album has been very strange. They have gone "slightly mainstream".
Examples of this;
Cardiff Arena shows, so called bonus tracks on the Japanese release aswell as bonus' like the lyrics sheet, live performances on shows like Taratata in France and Jimmy Kimmel in America (come on, the guy doesn't even know the track name) and actually advertising the new album via online advertisements and ad campaigns.
Lots of interviews on Radio 1, MTV, Newspapers, Magazines.
All in all they have been very busy!

I'm not having a go, it's just a contradiction to their first album and statements.

Yeah, but they played also on Saturday Night Live in America when they were promoting first album and I've seen some other shows, don't remember exactly how they were called.

But as you say, it's strange that they play in America on shows like that, but not in Britan and that now they do so much interviews etc.

Sounds like a contradiction to me as well. I'm starting to be a little scared actually.

Add that to my list of Mainstream examples, the "mimed" in Brianstorm which they said they would NEVER do.

they' re growing up... i mean, you don' t always stick to what you said when you were younger, right? even if you were right...
Concerning the fact that they play less things in the UK... maybe they think everybody knows them there and they want to know if their success there is only because of the hype by playing in countries they' re lesser known in

i' m so confused now

get off their backs the lot of ya.
they'll do what they want.

the music's good. i'd like to think they're still the same working class lads they were when they were playing to 9 or 10 people. i don't think it's changed them that much.

I think the main reason they've done shows like jimmy kimmel, SNL and such is because they don't recieve such incessant media hyping over there. over here they'd barely be able to move for press if they showcased themselves to the public like that. it's different in america. i suppose many americans, although they appreciate the music, don't "get it" if you get my meaning.

Thats the video though. Its not a live video like 'Fake Tales...' Or 'I Bet You Look Good...'

We understand that and aren't on their backs. Contradiction is something which pisses a lot of people off and the band have done exactly that.

That's the point. I don't think you understand what I meant.

Quote Alex : "We don't want to do a video where we are miming because we feel a bit silly"

Just a very different approach.

And they havn't grown up they are only one year older lol!

yeah i see your point.

it's a weird video all round though. they were probably playing anyway, just that's not what we get to hear.

I dunno.

Personally I think Brianstorm sounds far better live than the recorded version. It sounds harder and cooler.

I think they grow up a little. You can hear it on the new record.
They have seen so many things, met new people, travelled to so many places, it had to change them in some ways... But it's not that they are completly diffrent or something.

I don't care about the video, I just don't understand why they play on such stupid shows like Jimmie Kimmel...
